How I Stay Healthy

Yoga. Small portions of good food. Fresh fruits and veggies frequently. Experimenting with adding spices for health value (not just in place of salt.)

Shared experience with Lipid Disorders and Fish Oil 8 years ago

Fish oil has no apparent side effects, and has a good reputation. My cholesterol numbers are down -- not sure which part is due to fish oil, which part to better diet and exercise.

Shared experience with Lipid Disorders and Statins 8 years ago

I tried Lovastatin. I was very achy and had trouble sleeping. I resolved to be more careful in my diet and exercise to get those cholesterol numbers down. I am glad I tried it and understood the alternative to improved exercise and diet. Statins do work for others - but I found it too uncomfortable to continue.

Shared experience with Sinusitis and Ibuprofen 8 years ago

Ibuprofen reduces the head and sinus cavity pain, but not the congestion or actual infection.

Shared experience with Sinusitis and Neti Pot 8 years ago

Using the Neti pot for a nasal rinse really helps. It is scary at first - and possibly better to do in the shower than over a sink - but it really helps clear out mucus. It lets you get back to breathing, reduces headache, and has no side effects.

Shared experience with Sinusitis and Antibiotics 8 years ago

While I prefer to treat a sinus infection with steam or a nasal rinse - for really persistent ones, I have tried antibiotics with successful results. Just remember to eat a lot of yogurt or even take probiotic capsules.

Shared experience with Antioxidants 8 years ago

I've started eating Gobi Berries (in tea, baked goods, and even raw) to boost immunity. I feel better, and they are tasty. Gobi berries are one of the most concentrated sources of antioxidants.

Shared experience with Rose Hips 8 years ago

They have a nice flavor, and are a trusted source of Vitamin C. However, day to day I turn to red pepper and citrus for Vitamin C. When I feel a cold coming on, I take a chewable Vitamin C pill.

Shared experience with CT Scan of the Abdomen 8 years ago

The abdominal cat scan was informative - but I was nursing at the time, and had to dispose of any milk that might have had the contrast in it. Except for that it was a fine experience with useful results.
