I have been having problems with my bloodwork for about 9 months. Three weeks ago I had a bone marrow aspirate and bone marrow core biopsy. The doctor told me it was no more painful than a flu shot. The nurse gave me 10 mg of valium. I expressed to her that our family has a history of being immune to pain meds. Well, I can take pain pretty well, but after the 10th time of trying to drill in my hip I thought I was going to jump off the table. It took a total of 17 "drillings" before they finally got it. I could also feel the aspiration and it felt like someone sucking the life out of me. I would only recommend this procedure if it is the last resort and being totally sedated. My hip is still painful; I can't lay on that side to sleep. Five days ago I was diagnosed with CML. I am 52 years old. My brother was diagnosed with brain cancer at the age of 52. We were only 1 year and 2 days apart in age. He died 9 months after being diagnosed. My parents are devestated that their only child now has cancer too.
