Gout and Fluids

Written by sshowalter.

Effect of Fluids on Gout

Drinking plenty of fluids can help flush uric acid from the body. Also, it can help control and prevent the recurrence of gout attacks.

It is recommended that people drink around 8 cups of water daily. This does not include other beverages like milk, juices, coffee, tea or alcohol.

For every cup of caffeinated beverage that you drink, it is recommended that you also drink 1 and 1/2 cups of water (or herbal tea) to keep you from becoming dehydrated.

These are important recommendations for everyone, but are specifically so for individuals battling gout. Drinking lots of pure fluids can help the kidneys to eliminate the crystals of uric acid that build up and affect the joints. Click here to read more about the symptoms of gout.
