great giving back and recommendation of meditation/mindfulness.

like you I have chronic pain from a triple rollover, C-PTSD from childhood.. I have healed after a long journey using mindfulness, awareness and application.

So much more to life without the ego directing us. Now I run a blog supporting PTSD sufferers. I have developed a model, something concrete, repeatable under the adrenal stress response.

Emotions are tiny like thoughts, impermanent, fleeting.

JoAnn--

I agree that different people benefit from different techniques. But often the best approach is to use a variety of methods. The meditative practice described in this post is one of my tools. I also participate in a somatic therapy where raw emotional release is encouraged. Poetry is my personal creative outlet that permits expression of my deepest feelings. Exercise helps burn off the tension from emotional stress. Yoga is relaxing. And so on. I hope my essay doesn't give the impression that this style of meditation is necessarily a complete practice. It is very helpful, but all the more so when combined with other strategies. Thanks for the comment.

We all have dark moments. Finding assistance, methods for coping, and support are ALL important. For some of us, meditating and observing ourselves in various emotional states is helpful. For others, it is finding ways to express or release these emotions - music, art, writing, drama to name a few. Thank you for sharing your personal story.
