Commented on Needle Biopsy: Thyroid 6 years ago

jracho... it sounds like they might have hit a nerve... they did this to me when I had my spleen biopsied. It took six weeks just to get a bit of a handle on the pain from that... and about a year - maybe a bit more than a year - to get completely over the pain.

My Thyroid biopsy was yesterday. I feel like crap.... sore throat, a touch of nausea and borderline exhaustion accompanied by a mild headache... and there is significant pain when I cough. Ice packs on the throat have helped me... but yours sounds like you may want to get a second opinion.....

Get it done if you need it. It's pretty quick and, allegedly pretty accurate. If you send your biopsied material to Afirma in Texas they can do the standard tests plus check your genetics to see if it's likely you'll get thyroid cancer, ever. Depending on your income or whether you're on Medicaid/Medicare, they may not bill you for this service. Heads up though - I had mine done yesterday. I felt pretty crappy yesterday and today isn't any better. I'd recommend doing it the day before your weekend in case you feel as bad as I do (about as lousy as when I have a bad cold).
