Resting is an extremely crucial part to the successful treatment of cervical cancers and all other ailments. Juts like a professional athlete needs to rest their muscles and cannot train every day of the week, the rest and recovery time that you allow yourself during your fight with cervical cancer is extremely important for your recovery.
Remember to:
- Allow yourself to get an adequate amount of sleep each night (this may change, so listen to your body and if you need 7, 8, 10 or more hours of sleep, try to let your body have it! However, sleeping too much, more than your body needs, is not necessarily ideal)
- Take time out throughout your day to relax, check in with your body, and assess what you may need. Are you feeling stressed? Can you release some of that anxiety? Can you acknowledge your breath?
- Consider engaging in some mind-body techniques like breathing exercises, yoga or meditation. While these may not seem like "resting" since you are in fact doing something, these can be considered to be active resting, as you help rejuvenate your body during these exercises.
Effect of Resting on Cervical Cancer
The treatments for cancer, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy will add to the fatigue you already feel from fighting cancer. It is important to allow your body to rest. This will help your body maintain the strength to heal itself.
You may continue your usual activities to the extent that you feel able. Check with your physician before attempting strenuous activity, even if you fell well. Be aware that it may take some time for you to recover your pretreatment activity level.
