Reasons for Procedure

An amputation is usually done for one of the following reasons:

  • Poor blood flow cannot be corrected, resulting in tissue loss or extreme pain
  • Severe infection
  • Trauma or injury
  • Tumor
  • Congenital disorder (eg, a limb that has not formed properly)
