The word acupressure comes from a blend of the words acupuncture and pressure. Acupressure is a form of healing method closely related to acupuncture that involves using hands to apply pressure stimulation applied to certain acupuncture points along the body's energy fields known as meridians. Being derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the use of acupressure is often administered by a TCM practitioner but may also be used by holistic massage or physical therapists or anyone with a knowledge of acupressure, instead of needle stimulation. Acupressure is also closely related to Shiatsu, a form of Asian massage .
