Exhibited symptoms of depression and children, adolescents and adults can look the same; Loss of interest in activities, difficult sleeping, mood swings etc. But particularly, depression in children can be hard to pinpoint as they themselves often can not reflect on or contemplate their own experience. Somatic complaints ('my head hurts' or 'my tummy hurts') irritability, negativity, social withdrawal, and prolonged separation anxiety can be indications of childhood depression.

According to a review of many studies published in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, Gymnema sylvestre (or G. sylvestre) can help treat many of the underlying causes of type 2 diabetes including: "chronic inflammation, obesity enzymatic defects and pancreatic ß-cell function and no single oral hypoglycemic drug presently exerts such a diverse range of effects."1

Your doctor is unlikely to prescribe caffeine as a treatment for ADHD. Why? Because studies show that stimulant medication is more effective. That said, some researchers question these studies, suggesting that in higher dosages caffeine could be as effective as stimulants. Anecdotal evidence supports this theory as a number of ADHD suffers claim to already be using caffeine to self-medicate.
