Traditional doses of false unicorn root are 2 g as a uterine tonic or diuretic; however, no clinical studies have been performed to support a particular dose. Check the label on the medicine for dosing instruction. Some manufacturers recommendations are as follows:

Tincture.You may take 2-5ml of 1:5 strength tincture, or 1-2ml of 1:2 strength fluid extract.

Decoction. If you are using dried root, decoct 1-2 grams in a cup of water, simmer gently for 10-15 minutes. One to 2 cups of false unicorn root decoction may be taken twice daily.

Scientists carried out animal studies to investigate the effects of false unicorn root. One of these studies aimed to examine the effects of the herb on the uterus of guinea pig; however, the investigators did not detect any stimulant or relaxant effect on the subjects.

There are few studies of the benefits of false unicorn root in humans, and most

information on this herb comes from anecdotal evidence. A recent observation suggests, that false unicorn root may act by increasing human chorionic gonadotropin, the hormone that helps maintain pregnancy by encouraging progesterone production; however, further studies are required to confirm false unicorn's influence on human chorionic gonadotropin.
