Commented on Bone Marrow Biopsy 13 years ago

First of all this comment is not directed at the comment by "lipsofscarlett" above but a general observation, I am posting here because it's on top and there's no other place to post without claiming you've tried or prescribed it.

Please try to think critically about this kind of social information. It is like product reviews: Often people write about it because they had a bad experience. Think about it: If you were okay with the procedure are you going to make it a point to get on a forum and talk about it? No, you'd probably go about your business and carry on. On the other hand, people just has the tendency to complain if it didn't go well which is understandable, but it just means these pages will tend to be skewed with more negative comments. After all there is no "positive" experience with a bone marrow biopsy, maybe a relatively neutral one. Hopefully people will not turn away just because of a fear of pain when it's necessary.

That is THE question to ask, thank you for posting it. Frankly people are overly caught up in personal opinion and do not seem to have any understanding of the fact that medical science, be it mainstream or alternative is based on DATA rather than personal feelings based on reading tidbits here and there. Perhaps what is even more unfortunate than the lack of data in such articles is the lack of understanding or appreciation of the need for data in this typical thinking process.

With all due respect, what is that "probably" based on? It would help to have some form of reference or a statistic, after all that is not going to be made up based on a subjective feeling of an individual on the internet that we don't know. If you are a medical professional or otherwise qualify as someone more informed than the average individual it would help to have that information here so people know how to assess the information. It simply makes no sense to publish the info as-is given the combination of anonymity and vagueness of such a comment. Perhaps such articles published in the first place should include a statistic in the first place rather than just a simple word like "rare."

You admit you're not an expert and yet you have a laundry list of stereotypical alternative suggestions - is this really useful information? For the record I have actually been interested in alternative therapies for some 20 years, but my view has matured over that time. While nobody is going to ignore risk you are only focusing on fear when you focus on buzz words like "invasive" without any objective information, like an actual statistic on how often such complications occur. Such a forum eventually becomes a bunch of largely uninformed opinions without concrete information that people can use to make an informed decision. A philosophical paradigm mixed with thinly veiled fear and aversion is not a solution for any health condition, and really shows how far one has to go when it comes to mental or spiritual considerations.
