Possible Complications
Complications are rare, but no procedure is completely free of risk. If you are planning to have hysteroscopy, your doctor will review a list of possible complications, which may include:
- Swelling or bleeding
- Infection
- Organ injury
- Reaction to anesthesia
Factors that may increase the risk of complications include:
- History of pelvic inflammatory disease
- Inflammation of the cervix
- Distended bladder
- Pregnancy or possible pregnancy
- Allergies to surgical materials (eg, iodine, latex, medicines, anesthetics)
Be sure to discuss these risks with your doctor before the procedure.
Call Your Doctor
After arriving home, contact your doctor if any of the following occurs:
- Signs of infection, including fever and chills
- Abnormal bleeding (more than a menstrual period)
- Foul-smelling vaginal discharge
- Abdominal pain
- Nausea, vomiting
- Cough, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, or chest pain
- Trouble urinating
- Any other concerns
In case of an emergency, CALL 911.

I WISH THAT I HAD "N E V E R" HAD MY HYSTEROSCOPY, D&C, & ABLATION, MY DR SCREWED ME UP. I HAD THE LAP BAND SURGERY & HAD ALREADY LOST 95LBS, THEN AFTER MY PROCEDURES, IT CAUSED MY BAD TO CLOSE & I HAD TO HAVE ALL OF THE FLUID TAKEN OUT OF MY BAND & NOW I HAVE GAINED BACK 25LBS, I AM GOING TO ANOTHER OB/GYN THIS MONTH TO SEE WHAT THE OTHER DR DID TO ME, B/C THE PROCEDURE "DIDN'T" HELP MY AT ALL, I HAD IT DONE B/C I AM ONLY 38 & WAS HAVING MY PERIOD EVERY 2 WEEKS, BUT AFTER THE PROCEDURE I AM STILL HAVING MY PERIOD EVERY 2 WKS & NOW I HAVE TO TAKE PAMPRIN ALMOST DAILY, B/C I CRAMP ALMOST EVERYDAY.
am in facial numb and hard to breath please help for remedies
My MD automatically included hysterocopy in d&C surgery.despite stated conditions of hypotension and inflammatory condition in pelvis. Is Hysterocopy a requirement for out patient surgery?
