Panic Disorder Treatment: Diet

There are 9 Diet treatments for Panic Disorder.
Written by sshowalter.

We live in an age of anxiety. Most of us suffer from a certain level of chronic anxiety because modern life is jagged, fast-paced, and divorced from the natural rhythms that tend to create a harmonious inner life. For some, this existential unease goes further and becomes a psychological disorder like depression or anxiety disorders like panic disorder.

What we consume has a direct physiological effect on us, and on our mental states as well. It is well known that consuming caffeine, for example, can produce both a jittery physiological effect, as well as mental clarity/focus. Therefore, if you are suffering from panic disorder or other anxiety disorders, it is worth your while to assess how your diet might be contributing to your condition, or how supplementing nutrients can help in the treatment of the condition.

In addition to the substances listed below, there are some dietary supplements that are sometimes reported to be helpful in the treatment of anxiety disorder, but for which scientific study has not been conducted.

Inositol is often prescribed for the treatment of panic attacks.

Flaxseed oil, which contains omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids may also be helpful to calm anxiety though studies have not yet been done for it's use specifically for panic disorder.

Magnesium has been shown to help treat anxiety in one small study that used a combination of it plus the herbs California poppy and hawthorn. Study participants all suffered from generalized anxiety disorder of mild-to-moderate intensity. The results indicated that the combination treatment was more effective than placebo. No significant side effects were seen. This particular combination therapy is currently used in France.44
