Using a neti pot is a GREAT way to help clear the sinuses. It's made a huge difference for me. I have fewer sore throats and less congestion when I do it.

I have to make sure the water is just at body temperature, and use enough but not too much salt. (You'll know the temp or salt concentration is off if you get stinging or discomfort--definitely don't use water that is hot to the touch!). I can't use this treatment if I'm super congested and/or if my mucus is on the drier side. In that case, the neti fluid backs up into my ears, which probably isn't healthy. I stop and wait for things to loosen up a bit.

I recommend getting a plastic pot--it's really portable and won't break of you drop it. Also, my friend has a stainless steel one that she loves.

Using the Neti pot for a nasal rinse really helps. It is scary at first - and possibly better to do in the shower than over a sink - but it really helps clear out mucus. It lets you get back to breathing, reduces headache, and has no side effects.
